Sony has lost over $3 billion on PS3

According to the 2008 annual fiscal report, Sony has reported a $1.16 billion dollar loss on PS3 in 2008 combined with $2.16 billion in 2007. It is surprising to most consumers to realize that even after shelling out $599 per console that Sony still cannot make a profit due to the high costs of R&D. This has worried some stockholders as Sony even admitted from the beginning that the R&D costs may never be recoved especially if the console failed to make considerable market penetration. All is not lost, however, as highly anticipated games such as Metal Gear Solid 4 and Resistance 2 are due to come out. These games should help Sony build on the increased sales it saw during the last quarter and contribute to helping it become a profitable console.
